Lazy S.O.B. Recordings and Bulldog Record Productions are proud to announce the release of Rustic Fixer-Upper by Charlie Burton and the Texas Twelve Steppers. A varied collection of 14 wonderfully entertaining songs written by one of America's favorite unknown singer-songwriters, backed by some of Austin, Texas' best musicians.

Though hardly a household name outside his native Midwest, Charlie has been quietly releasing not-so-quiet records for 20 years, accumulating friends and fans as diverse as fellow ex-Nebraskan Matthew Sweet, Asleep at the Wheel's Ray Benson, and REM, garnering critical acclaim in The Village Voice, Billboard, Trouser Press, Creem, Rolling Stone, etc., etc., etc..

After inheriting the family harpsichord business at age 21, Charlie returned home to his native Nebraska, inspired by what he had discovered while living in the hotbed of socio-musical foment that was Ann Arbor, Michigan circa 1969-71: Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen, the Stooges, the MC5. Leading a series of barnstorming bands, releasing records and traveling throughout the US, Charlie has built up an extremely devoted following that eagerly awaits the release of RF-U. They should not be disappointed; this is the (dare we say mature?) recording they have always hoped Charlie would make.

Imaginatively produced by Asleep at the Wheal's much-Grammied drummer, David Sanger, RF-U, Charlie's first full-length recording in six years, would seem poised to expand Burton's uniquely literate and humorous Mend of American music styles to a wider audience. Backing Charlie are the Texas Twelve Steppers - that versatile virtuoso Mark Korpi on guitar, himself a veteran of such diverse combos as Evan John's H-Bombs, the Naughty Ones, and Gary Primich; ex-Two Hoots and a Holler and ex-Derailer bass player Vic Gerard; and producer Sanger pounding the skins. Supplementing this solid lineup are some exciting and invaluable guest stars: fiddle God Erik Hokkanen, steel players Lucky Oceans and Scott Walls, Mary Cutrufello on baritone guitar, former Small Face lan McLagan and the Wheel's hot reedster Michael Francis.

Highlights on RF-U include the swingin' C+W I'm the Guy Who 14 Miss Universe Slip Thru His Fingers, the savage neo-Cajun groove of Thin Ice/Deep Water, the swirlingly wacky psychosis of Baby Let's Play God, and the bittersweet bio-ballad Embarrassment of Riches. But highlights, schmighlights - once you discover Rustic Fixer-Upper you'll wanna move in!
