Nominated for 1999 "Indie Award" by the Association for Independent Music

Lazy S.O.B. Recordings is proud to announce the release of their fifth CD by a super-group of Austin pickers, chock full of enough country cheatin’ songs to challenge even the strongest of marriages. The Wandering Eyes, the group’s nom de guitar, is a conglomeration of the finest pickers and singers practicing the art of music today, performing some of the most glaring examples of how to behave badly in this new collection called “Songs of Forbidden Love.”

“It’s not a compilation or a tribute album, unless you call it a tribute to indiscretion,” says David Sanger, label president, producer and drummer for the CD, “ It is the same group of players and singers throughout. I guess it is closer to an album by a studio group who probably will never tour. You know, like the Archies."

Contrary to popular belief, President Bill Clinton was not the inspiration for the disc. The idea was hatched between takes at a recording session when Jason Roberts (Asleep at the Wheel) started playing a series of old country cheatin’ songs that Sanger had never heard. “The concept of the pure cheatin’ song, one where the participants of the song were being unfaithful and lovin’ it, has disappeared” says Sanger. “And here was Jason playing a slew of these songs I didn’t know. I thought ‘if I’ve been in country music for twelve years and didn’t know these great tunes I’m sure bunches of people haven’t heard them either.’”

So Sanger assembled some of his favorites to play and sing an album’s worth of songs, some well-known and some very obscure, about behaving badly in the old Nashville style. The singers called upon were Kelly Willis, Dale Watson, Rosie Flores, Ted Roddy, Chris O’Connell and Jason Roberts. The pickers read like a who’s who of Austin country music highlighted by almost all of Asleep at the Wheel , Floyd Domino, Marty Muse, Rick McRae, Dale Watson, Dave Biller, Chris Miller and Mary Cutrufello. The background vocals, essential in a good cheatin’ song, are handled by The Wandering Eyes’ sister group, The Spectacles. This fine assemblage includes two other Lazy S.O.B. Recording artists Ana Egge and Charlie Burton.

Song highlights include “Hell Yes, I Cheated,” “Lovin on Backstreets, Livin on Main,” “When She Does Me Right, She Does You Wrong,” “Cheatin Traces” and “The Devil in Mrs. Jones.”
